Job Type: Travel Contract
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 3x12 Rotating
Pay: $2,460.60/week (plus $2,500 completion bonus per contract, up to $7,500 after three contracts)
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Correctional Health Services team in Milan, NM, for a 13-week travel assignment. The RN will deliver comprehensive nursing care to inmates/residents in a secure correctional facility, working collaboratively with licensed independent providers and healthcare staff to ensure safe, effective, and ethical medical services.
This role requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and professionalism in a structured environment. Nurses in this position play a vital role in maintaining the health and safety of residents while adhering to correctional, corporate, and healthcare standards.
Provide direct patient care, execute provider orders, and administer medications as prescribed.
Attend and assist providers during sick calls and examinations; prepare exam rooms and necessary equipment.
Operate medication distribution (pill call) per policy and maintain accurate documentation.
Assess new inmates/residents for illness or injury; coordinate emergency transfers or referrals as appropriate.
Perform emergency and life-saving procedures as needed; notify the provider of treatment orders.
Supervise and monitor nursing care provided by LVNs/LPNs and non-licensed medical staff.
Monitor inpatient hospitalizations and assist with early release planning where applicable.
Maintain strict security and confidentiality of all medical records and patient information.
Audit pharmacy usage and ensure adherence to formulary and controlled substance regulations.
Provide health education and counseling to residents as needed.
Assist the Health Services Administrator in maintaining accurate and compliant documentation, logs, and reports.
Promote adherence to NCCHC, ACA, and JCAHO standards within the facility.
Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and safety concerns in accordance with policy.
License: Current RN license in the state of New Mexico (or compact eligibility).
Education: Graduate from an accredited college, university, or nursing program with a degree/diploma in nursing.
Experience: One (1) year of professional nursing experience preferred; correctional or behavioral health experience a plus.
Certifications:
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Valid driver’s license
Skills & Traits:
Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
Excellent communication and documentation abilities
Ability to work effectively in a correctional or secure care setting
